Chopsticks the easy way

sausages never tasted better

We bought these chopsticks at the National Gallery of Victoria shop. Asher got into them straight away. I’ve got other pictures of Asher using real chopsticks quite some time ago, and even a video. I’ll have to see what I can do about posting those too.

Missing Asher

Asher学汉字

Above is a picture of Asher doing his daily study. I’m so proud of him. I look forward to going home so that I can be with him again.

Although he speaks and understands the Mandarin language, culturally he is being brought up as a combination of Australian and Singaporean.

If only I could read this well to Asher!

Mid-October already

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Today Asher & I are home sick. Asher’s watching Chinese Teletubbies and I’m at a bit of a loss for something productive to do.

The above is a picture of Asher in Japan.

Recently I’ve been using Supermemo to memorise stuff I need to know for work. It’s a pretty cool program, but it has a learning curve in itself. Very powerful for those who know what they’re doing, unlike me.

Roti prata

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Here’s Asher having some roti prata here in Singapore. He now eats the curry that comes with it as well!

Of course I’ve just noticed the photo is too big for the page. I’ll have to sort out my image resizing on our return to Melbourne.

Affection

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Ying gets lots of kisses from Asher. He’s settled into Singapore well, and we look forward to travelling to Nagoya tomorrow to see old friends.

Hopefully while we’re travelling we’ll continue to have opportunities to keep this site updated.

Singapore again

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Well, we’re back in Singapore again before heading off to Japan.

Asher has a bit of a rash and lack of appetite, and vomited in the car on the way from the airport. We took him to the doctor this morning who said it’s nothing serious. We really hope he’s fully recovered before our trip to Japan in just under a week now.

Bishan, where we are staying in Singapore, has a new library.

This morning we got a small MP3 player for $18 (Singapore Dollars - roughly the same as AUD). From Cash Converters! Seems to work well, of course it’s second hand. No headphones, but as I type I’m able to play it through the computer here.

We missed Church on Sunday because we got in too late on Saturday night, not to mention Asher’s ailment/s as described above. We have a Church here in Singapore we really enjoy going to. They are Reformed Baptists, like us. Hopefully we’ll make it there soon.

little swallow

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

Asher likes this song:

小燕子穿花衣,
年年春天来这里。
我问燕子你为啥来,
燕子说这里的春天最美丽。
小燕子告诉你,
今年这里更美丽。
我们盖起了大工厂,
装上了新机器,
欢迎你长期住在这里。

It’s about a beautiful little swallow. The strange thing is that the child singing the story to the swallow is telling it that the area in which they are situated will be even more beautiful when a new factory is built there.

Unless I’m misunderstanding the story, which is always a possibility.

To watch a flash animation of the song, see here or here.

re: 盖起, it’s gàiqǐ r.v. build up (wenlin). For this usage of 起, see Q188 on p112 of Rohsenow.

Asher loves a cuddle (so does Daddy)

Hi all, I’ve been a bit busy to think of anything much to post here recently. When all else fails, add a photo.
