revisited 大明湖
***I’m reposting this at the top of the blog, because I accidentally deleted it last night. Having been unable to access Google’s cache here in China I owe big thanks to Terri for retrieving it for me and emailing it***
Literally “big bright lake”, I took David for a look at this major attraction. Well worth a second look.
It’s strange, the second character down (if you’ll compare it with the heading of this post) should have an 日 on the left, rather than a 目. I asked some kind bystanders what the reason for the difference was, and they said it was because of 特殊含义. I need to do a bit of investigating as to why this is. 2、古代书法多一笔少一笔常见，如：“流”字上的点

趵突泉南门的匾上的“突”字头上少了一“点”；而大明湖正门牌坊上“大明湖”的“明”字的“日”字边中多了一“点”，成了“目月”“明”字，何解？！
传说，古时趵突泉涌泉水势猛烈，泉啸时达数丈高，不少书法家书写立碑都被冲走。老百姓与济南府的官员很想请个有一定官职又是书法家的人书写立碑，标名趵突泉的身份，压住汹涌不息的趵突泉水，于是选择了来自甘肃天水任职的山东巡抚胡缵宗。胡擅书大楷，是当时有名的书法家。他连写了几幅，最后选了碑上这幅，由济南有名的石匠选上等石料刻成。端午这天，咸宁司马带领知府内的官吏把趵突泉石碑竖立在趵突泉源头。可是不久却发现趵突泉石碑上象征着盖住趵突泉盖子的“突”上的一“点”已被腾空的泉水冲到了大明湖啦。
